Even if you do not consider yourself the <em>ideal<\/em> discussant for a paper, rest assured that the most interesting suggestions frequently come from persons with different perspectives than those of the author.? The Program Cochairs consider the program included here to be &#8220;final&#8221; with respect to scheduling papers, and will resist making changes. They&#8217;ve attempted to honor all scheduling requests received prior to December 1.? Any further program changes <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">must<\/span> be kept to a minimum due to the fullness of the program and the need not to inconvenience others by making last-minute swaps. This coming February the sun will shine on the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa?s championship tennis complex as WRSAers take to the courts for our first annual tennis competition! Phone: (303) 492-2145.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr width=\"100%\" \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: CG Times;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">WRSA Cohosts Enormously Successful<\/span><\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-family: CG Times;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">North American Meetings of the RSAI in Santa Fe<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: CG Times;\"><span>The WRSA, along with the Department of Geography &amp; Regional Development of the University of Arizona cohosted the largest ever North American Meetings of the Regional Science Association International, November 11 ? 14, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. More than 400 regional science scholars from far and wide participated in the three days of the 45th annual conference. The Final Program included a total of 84 paper sessions featuring 316 papers, along with a large number of panels and council and business meetings. Sessions were held in two hotels, the historic La Fonda and the lovely Hotel Loretto. Participants filled the sleeping rooms of both those establishments to capacity, and two additional official hotels were added to accommodate the overflow attendance.<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: CG Times;\"><span>?<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span><span style=\"font-family: CG Times;\">Special events at the conference included a large slate of invited-paper sessions organized in memory of Ben Stevens, WRSA Board member Geoff Hewings?s<\/span> Presidential Address, the Annual NARSC Awards Banquet Luncheon with a speech by Ed Glaeser of Harvard on the Future of Cities (not to mention WRSA?s own composer in residence, Jean Paelinck?s, piano recital), and a high-spirited conference supper party for all participants on Friday evening.? Meeting-goers took full advantage of the unique Santa Fe ambiance, enjoying its culinary and scenic charms.? After snow and cold weather in the early and mid-part of the week, the skies cleared and the temperatures warmed up into the 60s on Friday and Saturday giving conference-goers a taste of the full spectrum of early-winter in the Land of Enchantment.<\/span><br \/>\n<span>?<\/span><br \/>\n<span>The massive job of organizing the academic side of the Meetings was expertly handled by Program Co-chairs adrian X. esparza and Brigitte_Waldorf.? The conference logistics were handled by Arrangements Chair David a. Plane, assisted by Linda Koski and a merry band of grad students from Arizona?s Department of Geography &amp; Regional Development.? It is probably fair to brag that the two North American conferences co-hosted by WRSA ? the 1993 40th Annual Meetings at the Four Seasons Hotel in Houston) and the 45th in Santa Fe ? each set new standard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr width=\"100%\" \/>\n<p><strong><em>Call for Papers<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Geographical &amp; Environmental Modelling<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Geographical &amp; Environmental Modelling<\/span> (GEM) is a fully refereed journal that provides an international forum for spatial research in the fields of geographical, ecological, environmental and spatial modeling.<\/span><br \/>\n<span>?<\/span><br \/>\n<span>As GEM begins its third year of publication it encourages submissions in all areas of analytical modeling in human and physical geography.?
